Picnic is co-owned by Anne-Marie Lasher and Stephen Wood, two veterans of the Philadelphia fine dining scene. We met at Fork where Anne-Marie was the original chef and Stephen was a server. Before Fork, Anne-Marie spent years in the kitchen at the White Dog Café and Stephen served at the first Striped Bass and Carolina’s. While Picnic is a bit more casual than these places, we strive to maintain the attention to detail that fine dining demands, and apply it to both the cooking and service at Picnic.

Picnic was opened in 2001 in response to the growing demand for quality carry out food. The pace of today’s lifestyles continues to feed this trend. And while consumers have an increasingly sophisticated international palate, simultaneously, they crave the foods of their memories. Picnic tries to balance these two seemingly disparate ideas.

Picnic features fresh seasonal foods prepared in an “American Bistro” style. American implies multi-ethnic and Bistro implies simply prepared, unpretentious, flavorful food. The store menus change regularly, at our whim, and the catering menus, which require more standardization, change seasonally.

Picnic is committed to supporting local sustainable agriculture and purchases from local growers, whenever possible. We are members of Fair Food and regularly buy from 4 local farm organizations and 1 farm directly: Lancaster County Farm Fresh, Green Meadow Farm, Greensgrow Farm, Sunny Harvest and Pequea Valley Farm. As small business owners, we believe in supporting other small business owners by buying from locally owned food vendors.

You can experience Picnic’s offerings in a variety of ways: You can stop by the shop for breakfast on the go, enjoy a quick, freshly made lunch in the café with a friend or pick up dinner to reheat at home. You can have Picnic and staff, cater an event in your home, or we can drop off catering at your office. Or come by and pick out a vintage picnic basket, fill it with delicious food and head to the park.
